Parents of five Southborough students are bursting to share their pride. The 3rd and 4th graders won regional and state Destnation Imagination competitions.
The team, ImagiNation Army, mastered challenges testing their creativity, teamwork and problem solving.
Now their parents have a problem to solve – getting them to the Global Finals in Tennessee in two weeks. And they are hoping for a little community teamwork to do it.

Destination Imagination (DI), is a nationwide competition that encourages kids to experience creativity, teamwork, and problem solving. Teams of up to seven children are tested to think on their feet, work together, and devise solutions that satisfy the requirements of the challenges. Every aspect of a team’s solution is determined and constructed by the children on the team, without adult interference.
This year, a Southborough team made up of 3rd and 4th graders participated in DI offered through Southborough Recreation and coached by Imagination Unbound. This team called ImagiNation Army placed first both at the Regional and State Levels in the Tension Builds challenge at the elementary level!! As a result, they have been selected to represent Massachusetts at the Global Finals of DI competition being held in Knoxville, TN from May 21-24 this year.
The team took on the “Tension Builds” challenge, which involved building a structure out of wood, glue and fishing line that was designed to bear as much weight as possible while withstanding tension created by the structure being placed atop of a pyramid. The challenge also required the team to perform a play within eight minutes to depict a situation where tension is a threat to stability and is overcome. The team worked very hard and wants to compete with the best teams from around the world! In order to send the team and their team managers to the Global Finals we need support from friends and family to augment the funds that parents have already contributed to help the team get to Globals.
