Notes on the Wed. night Advisory Committee agenda item regarding “John Wilson’s comments at Town Meeting.”
If you weren’t there (or don’t read my column), here’s the main idea of John’s comments after the article that would have changed the appointing authority for the two chiefs and the DPW head from the Selectmen to the Town Administrator was read by a member of the Advisory Committee. (It didn’t pass.)
Wilson said that that Committee’s function is to attend to town finances and thus be able to offer recommendations on financial issues to voters, NOT to render advice on the structure of town government (such as changing appointing authority).
Since the Advisory Committee is appointed by the Moderator — thus for many years by former Moderator Wilson—it is a matter in which he is well-versed.
I draw attention to this because it is an essential question deserving careful discussion and our attention as voters and citizens; it concerns the very framework of our town government.
Check the SouthboroughAccessMedia schedule… that meeting may be broadcast.
