Give yourself a break and your kids some fun: Southborough Rec’s Summer programs (Updated)

Yesterday was the last day of public school in Southborough.

About now, the kids are as giddy as. . . well as kids just released for the summer. Parents may not be so giddy.

Summer can crawl by or fly by. It depends on how you enjoy it. For me, occasional weeks of half day camp are a lifesaver.

Starting next week, Southborough Recreation Department offers some wonderful camps. My kids have a blast at their summer camps. They also offer swim classes, sports camps, and even engineering camps.

Below is a list of the youth programs offered this summer.

Summer camps (options for potty trained 2.9 yr olds to soon to be 5th graders):

  • The half day camp offers art, sports, and games.
  • Theme weeks include carnival, heroes, athletics and safari
  • There’s a 3o minute window for drop/off pickup before and after the 9:00 am – noon camp (8:30-12:30). That means four free hours for you. Woo hoo!
  • Certain weeks offer 2nd – 5th graders a chance to explore activities at Fay’s Discovery Camp.

Counseler in Training program (entering grades 6-9):

  • Learn about behavior management, risk management, safety awareness, decision making, program planning and team building
  • Open swim at St. Mark’s pool
  • Friday field trips to Hopkinton State Park
  • After 2 weeks, can be evaluated for volunteer positions at summer camp

Educational Camps

  • Legos – Engineering or Ninjaneering (options for ages 5-11)
  • On-Camera acting (ages 7-13)
  • Chemical Magic (ages 6-11)

Sports classes and camps:

  • Swimming lessons
  • Tennis Mini Clinics
  • Golf Clinics
  • Baseball Clinics
  • Tball
  • Basketball
  • Flag Football
  • Soccer
  • Gym Games
  • Lacrosse
  • Archery
  • Field Hockey

Updated (6/25/14 1:00 pm): Thanks to a comment, I just learned that the CIT program is full. They do take a a waitlist, but there are already several names on it.

Just to clarify for anyone interested, the CIT Program is full at both the Finn and Woodward camps! It filled up fast this year, which is great news!
