This Sunday, a group of long-time friends with roots in town are cycling for a personal cause.
Sandy Torres, a Southborough mother who grew up in town, was diagnosed with brain cancer. Since then, she’s appreciated the way the community has come together to support her in her battle.
One example of that support is the fundraising team Cycling 4 Sandy. The team is lead by her fiancee, Southborough native Matt Rossini.
Rossini explains on his fundraising page:
Sandie’s faith and [determination] to stand up and fight is the reason why I ride. I am humbled every day by her strength!
Cycling 4 Sandy is part of A Reason to Ride this Sunday in Danvers. The annual bike-a-thon raises funds for cancer care and research at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, where Torres is receiving her treatments.
Rallying around the couple to make up the team are three of Rossini’s childhood friends (and Sandy’s former classmates), with Torres’ ex-husband: Tim Peck, Ryan Ford, Mike O’Connell, and Ramiro Torres.
Rossini writes of the team and supporters:
we are astonished by every supporter and every dollar raised. All donations, regardless of the dollar amount, are invaluable to us. Our riders are soldiers, helping us wage the fight and we are forever grateful for their participation.

Or you can head to Danvers with your bike (or even trike) this Sunday to take part!
I’m told you can still sign up at the ride that morning. The 10, 20, and 50 mile bike-a-thon start and finish at the Liberty Tree Mall. The scenic ride goes through the north shore Towns Of Danvers, Wenham, Ipswich, Essex, Gloucester, and Topsfield. The event start time is listed as 8:00 am.
If you’re not a cyclist, you can still participate. The festivities include food, raffles, music, family activities and their 3rd annual Trike-a-thon.
