Stephen Gorham Scott, 73, of Southborough, MA passed away peacefully on November 10, 2014 in his home surrounded by loved ones after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Born in Portland, ME to Gorham Hopkins Scott and Nora (Kemp) Scott, his early years were divided between Cape Elizabeth, ME and New Canaan, CT. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Dartmouth College in 1963. Thereafter, Steve became an advertising executive in New York City, Boston, and Providence where he managed many well-known accounts such as Ivory Bar Soap and Cross Pens. In the mid-1990s, he settled in Southborough to be closer to his family, and finished his career as a marketing executive with Comprehensive Identification Products, Inc. in Burlington, MA.
Upon retirement, he enjoyed many of his passions, including harvesting and sharing his extensive vegetable garden, skiing with family, golfing with friends, and senior softball. He was a voracious reader of history and politics; he also found pleasure in writing, painting, and listening to jazz. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he played basketball, baseball, and football in his youth, and was always a loyal fan of every Boston sports team. He was never happier than when entertaining family and friends in his antique home, where he was proud to demonstrate his fine culinary skills.
Steve will be remembered for his generosity, his love of family, his steadfast commitment to principles he held dear, and, of course, his dry sense of humor and quick wit.
He is survived by his daughters, Alison Hartelius, and her husband, Jason, of Shrewsbury, MA; Lauren Rankins, and her husband, Jared, of Virginia Beach, VA; five beloved grandchildren: Andrew, Benjamin, and Madison Hartelius and Harper and Maxwell Rankins; his brother, Peter Scott, of Boynton Beach, FL; his sister, Wendy McDonald, and her husband, Alan, of Southborough, MA; his sister-in-law, Peggy Scott, of Boston, MA; his nieces and nephews, Gregory Scott, of Watertown, MA and Molly, Betsy, and Timothy McDonald, of Boston, Somerville and Watertown, MA respectively; cousins David Scott of Harrisburg, PA and Timothy Scott of Chapman, ME. He was predeceased by his nephew, Andrew Scott. And, not to be forgotten, his cat, Quixote, a constant companion to the very end.
A memorial service will be held on November 29, at 11:00 AM at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 27 Main Street, Southborough, MA.

I have to assume by the name of the cat, that this is the cat that was missing in the Oak Hill Road area. I am so glad that Mr. Scott was able to have Quixote back with him at the end. Pets are such a large part of our lives and after speaking with one of his daughters, I know he was heartbroken that the cat was missing for a time. Prayers to the family and know that you have his most prized possession – Quixote.
