Southborough Police are putting residents on alert to “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over”. Town officers are joining a larger initiative to reduce impaired driving this month:
The Southborough Police Department would like to announce that it is joining over 148 law enforcement agencies statewide in an intensive crackdown on impaired driving. The campaign will take place from December 1st until January 1, 2015 as part of the national, “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” mobilization funded through a federal grant administered through the state Executive Office of Public Safety and Security’s Highway Division.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), reports that 123 people were killed in Massachusetts in crashes involving drivers with a blood alcohol content of .08 or higher in 2012. NHTSA also reports that on average there is one alcohol impaired driving fatality every 51 minutes across America.
Officers will out on different days and times during high risk periods when impaired drivers are likely to be on the road.

Take it from someone who has been on the enforcement end of impaired driving: Never leave your house. People never cease to amaze. Some of my worst offenders occurred at 10am on a weekday. I’m talking 3rd, 4th, 5th offense OUIs. One was swigging from a vodka bottle while driving an 18 wheeler with 80,000 pounds of pre-formed concrete on it!
It’s unavoidable. And police are out doing all they can to stop it, but it’s a daunting task.
If you leave your house, just keep your head on a swivel and watch out for the other guy.
