Flags in Southborough and across the state are flying at half staff until sunset on the date of interment in honor of former United States Senator Edward W. Brooke who died on January 3, 2015.

Edward W. Brooke, the Massachusetts Republican who was the first African-American to be elected to the US Senate since Reconstruction, died Saturday morning in his Coral Gables, Fla., home.
