I still consider the Southborough Library’s discount passes one of the most underutilized great resources in town. So, I wanted to take the opportunity to remind readers again. Especially with February break looming.
There are plenty of passes still available to reserve for next week. You can find information through the museum pass page on the library’s website. There you can find the “Museum Passes at a Glance” grid for pass details or reserve passes online. You can also make reservations by calling 508-485-5031.
This month, the Library is highlighting the MFA in Boston.
The pass admits two adults at the price of $10.00 each. (Visitors under 17 are free on weekends, school holidays and after 3:00 pm on school days. If you are visiting with kids, they have some helpful information here.)
There are several visiting exhibits this month, including contemporary artist Shinique Smith. (Click thumbnail to enlarge photo right.)
And, of course, they are famous for their diverse collections. As their website boasts:
Today the MFA is one of the most comprehensive art museums in the world; the collection encompasses nearly 450,000 works of art. We welcome more than one million visitors each year to experience art from ancient Egyptian to contemporary, special exhibitions, and innovative educational programs.
If you haven’t been in a few years, it may be time to return. The museum has made some changes:
2010 marked the opening of the Art of the Americas Wing, with four levels of American art from ancient to modern. In 2011, the west wing of the Museum was transformed into the Linde Family Wing for Contemporary Art, with new galleries for contemporary art and social and learning spaces. Improved and new galleries for European, Asian, and African art have opened through 2013, with more to come.
One great thing about this pass is that it doesn’t have to be returned. So reserve a date and plan a fun trip to Boston next week.
MFA is terrific for children! My grandchildren (6 1/2, 5 and 2 1/2).love going to the MFA. There is a children’s desk in the Shapiro lobby/restaurant area that has activities for children of all ages to do In the museum. They have enjoyed all areas of the museum.
