Reminder – Senior tax work-off applications accepted beginning Tuesday

This spring, seniors can apply to work off up to $1,000 from their town property taxes. As always, preference will be given to those with annual household incomes less than $45K.

The Senior Center posted a reminder:

Each year is treated as a separate program so seniors repeating the program must sign up again.

Applications for FY16 are now available, and the Town will begin accepting them tomorrow, Tuesday, April 7th, 8:30 am April 7th at the Senior Center.  (There are only 30 positions, so act quickly. Qualified applicants are selected on a first-come, first-served basis.)

This popular program matches qualified seniors with work projects in town departments. In return for their service, seniors earn a property tax credit. Seniors must be age 60 or older and be willing to commit 125 hours of service within the year.

In past years seniors have worked at the Senior Center, Library, Assessor’s Office, Town Clerk’s Office, DPW, and in the schools. Work ranges from data entry to organizing the Swap Shop to helping out in school classrooms, and more.

Applications are available by clicking here. Or you can pick one up at the Senior Center or the Assessor’s Office.
