On Facebook, the club explained:

The Southborough Rotary Club has decided to marshall it’s resources to help the people of Nepal survive the effects of the recent earthquakes in their country. With the generous support of Saint Mark’s school, the club is hosting a fundraising event at the school on Friday evening June 26th. The goal of the fundraiser is to help Rotary International provide emergency shelters to these unfortunate people. The Shelter Box program run by Rotary International is a proven and reliable means of helping people around the world survive devastating circumstances.

Detailed in the Rotary’s press release:

Rescue missions and emergency aid continue to arrive in Nepal after a massive earthquake hit the country killing at least 7,500 people and injuring thousands more. The 7.8″magnitude quake, the worst to hit Nepal in more than 80 years, has affected 8 million people in the country’s 39 districts, including 1.4 million needing assistance, according to government officials. It is a desperate situation.

ShelterBox is Rotary International’s premier partner for delivery of critical life” saving survival aid. ShelterBox delivers the essentials people need to begin rebuilding their lives in the aftermath of a disaster. The boxes are tailored to a disaster. Typically they contain a disaster relief tent for a family, thermal blankets and groundsheets, water storage and purification equipment, solar lamps, cooking utensils, a basic tool kit, mosquito nets and a children’s activity pack.
