It’s a stellar summer for Southborough Youth Baseball. I got emails from two proud parents eager to share another team’s good news.

One of the team’s assistant coaches wrote:

Shrewsbury jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning with 3 runs, but Southborough responded immediately with 4 runs in the bottom of the first and never fell behind again. Solid pitching and ‘sparkling’ defense held Shrewsbury to only 4 runs for the remaining five innings as Southborough’s offense remained relentless throughout the championship game.

The Sparkler tournament is held in Ashland at Gryncel Park and consists of ten area teams competing in 8 regular games and three playoff games. The ten teams that competed were: Bellingham, Holliston, Southborough, Ashland, Hopkinton, Westborough, Dover-Sherborn, Medway, and a second team from Shrewsbury, the Shrewsbury Americans.

The only MVPs on this team were commitment and hard work. Congratulations to the Southborough 8-year-old baseball team.

Last week, I shared news on two other youth baseball teams that won titles.

One team, the 13 year old Junior Leaguers, was continuing to vie for a shot at the state title. Unfortunately, that dream ended last night with a sectional loss to Quincy. (If they had beat Quincy last night and tonight, they would have gone on to the championship game.)

The team still has its district title to boast – and from what I hear, they can also be proud that they “played their hearts out” in sectionals.

Congrats to all Southborough’s young baseball champs.
