Southborough Recreation is seeking volunteers for a program to help children with disabilities. While I’m putting out the word, it seems like a good time to share some other news.
District students are preparing for a Special Olympics event next week. And ARHS Best Buddies was honored as state chapter of the year.

Seeking PEP Buddies
Southborough Recreation is holding a special exercise and recreation program for people with disabilities in grades K-8. To help run the program, they need volunteer buddies.
The program will run Wednesdays from 3:00 – 4:00 pm, May 4th through June 8th:
Adaptive (Physical Education Program) enhances the quality of life of people with disabilities through exceptional recreational activities. A different activity will be introduced each week focusing on fitness, health, and wellness. Whether it is bicycling, aerobics, basketball, or soccer, those living with disabilities can rebuild their strength and sense of independence while they increase body awareness, build self confidence, learn new life skills, and even make new friends.
Classes will be supervised by Frank Nellenback, Northborough/Southborough Regional District Adapted PE Teacher.

Special Olympics
I heard from a reader that Trottier students are participating in a Special Olympics event. I followed up with the district and learned that the big event is next Friday:
The Metro West School Day Games hosted by Special Olympics is to be held at Bowditch Field in Framingham Friday, April 15th from 10am-1pm.
The Northborough, Southborough, and Regional School Districts have a combined total of 52 athletes participating in track and field events. The athletes attend 3 practices in preparation for the games. One practice took place at Melican Middle School in Northborough [Wednesday]. [Thursday was] the second practice at Trottier Middle School in Southborough with a final practice at this location on Tuesday, April 12th.
Our athletes, parents and staff always look forward to this wonderful event. It is the best day of the year!
Other surrounding towns are invited to participate.

ARHS Best Buddies
Last week, ARHS Best Buddies held its campaign to end the R-Word. At a school assembly, the group screened its campaign video. Afterwards, they were honored by the state association as the best chapter (out of 125).
