Yesterday afternoon, Algonquin hosted tourneys for two home teams vying for championships. One is still in the mix.
The evening was a blow to ARHS Baseball fans. The second seed team lost out in Quarter Finals to seventh seed Wachusett 3-2.
It was a surprise upset late in the game. According to the Telegram, Algonquin pitcher Matt Geoffrion kept their opponents hitless for the first five innings. Then:
Trailing by two runs in the sixth inning against second-seeded Algonquin in their Central Mass. Division 1 quarterfinal, seventh-seeded Wachusett was looking for anything to turn the tide. Turns out they got it, but barely.
Pinch hitter Ryan Brodin’s two-run triple glanced off the glove of Algonquin center fielder Nolan Kessinger in deep center as the Mountaineers rallied to stun the Tomahawks, 3-2, on Monday.

But T-Hawks still have something to cheer for. Boys Tennis trumped Shrewsbury, 4-1 in the Semi-Finals. Tomorrow, they go up against top seed Westborough for the district Finals. The game takes place 4:00 pm at St. John’s. [Editor’s Note: The game was rescheduled to Thursday, June 9th at 4:15 pm.]
