Earlier this week, I shared information on pick-your-own-fruit farms. But, you don’t have to get down on your hands and knees to get the freshest fruits and vegetables.
Check out these local farmers’ markets. One is open this afternoon:
The Westborough Farmers Market – Open every Thursday from 2:00 – 6:00 pm through September 29 at the Congregational Church in downtown Westborough.
The market features “Dozens of varieties of fresh vegetables, cage free eggs, Massachusetts maple syrup, wine, beef, lamb, pork, fresh baked bread, brownies, and artisan goods.” They’ll also be featuring a different musical act each week. And (based on experience), you can expect some kind of children’s activity/craft.
Ashland Farmers Market – Open Saturdays from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm through October 8, on 125 Front St., in Ashland.
The market is a good sized one with a lot of produce and prepared foods by local vendors. They also feature music, a kids craft and community tent.
This weekend, they’ll be celebrating a Strawberry Festival. In addition to their usual goods, vendors will be selling a wide variety of food highlighting the fruit including jams, pastries, yogurt, gelato Strawberry & Chèvre Ravioli, and, of course, the berries themselves.
Shrewsbury Farmers Market – Open Wednesdays from 2:00 – 6:30 pm at Ski Ward in Shrewsbury. Features include: local produce, special jams and honey, baked goods, dairy products, and more.
Did I miss something? If you’d like to share your favorite farmers’ market or places to get fresh food, comment below.
(Of course, Farmers Markets aren’t the only place to get fresh produce. Chestnut Hill Farm in Southborough opened their farm stand. It’s early season, so mostly greens are on offer. But this year they’ve also added more prepared foods from local vendors, including sauces, syrups, coffee, and fruit spreads. Stay tuned for details.)
