It’s time for the annual Scouting for Food drive to support the Southborough Food Pantry.
This weekend, you’ll be seeing scouts of all types around town, posting flyers.* The following Saturday, November 12th, they’ll be back in your neighborhood hoping to gather a bounty for the pantry.

Scouting for Food
This Saturday, November 5th marks the beginning of Southborough’s Annual Scouting for Food drive. Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts all over town will be hanging bags on mailboxes to collect donations to benefit the Southborough Food Pantry.
This is the largest food drive of the entire year for the Southborough Food Pantry and is essential for keeping the shelves stocked through the winter and beyond. Last year over 10,000 lbs. of food was donated!
Making a donation is simple. Just fill the bag (or more) with contributions of food, personal care, and paper products. Leave any filled bags or boxes next to your mailbox by 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 12th, when Scouts will come and pick up your donation. Please be sure to check expiration dates on food items, as the food pantry cannot distribute expired food.

*Scout families looking to pick up flyers and their routes should head to Pilgrim Church this Friday night (6:00 – 8:00 pm) or Saturday morning (8:00 – 10:00 am).

The Scouts leave the bag to be filled at my door and they never come back the next week to retrieve them, this has gone for at least for the past three years, therefore the nextyear I will throw their bags they leave at my door, promptly in the trash. I don,’t blame the boys, it has to be the parent’s_fault for not driving these children to finish their job. _____
It’s hard to believe a family takes the time to put out bags but not collect. So, I’m wondering if there is misunderstanding here.
They may be leaving the bag at your door to get your attention. But as the flyer states, the bag is supposed to be left by the mailbox by 9am.
If you are leaving it at your door, thinking that’s where they’ll get it, they are probably checking by your mailbox and mistakenly thinking you didn’t make a donation. If you are leaving it by your mailbox after 9am, then they may have come and gone.
If neither of those describe what’s happening, then, I really don’t understand what is happening.
Jean, There must have been a mix up on my street as well. I put my bag out the night before. I was gone all day Saturday and came home to the bag in the same place. I didn’t freak out, I just brought it down to the Pilgrim Church. Remember these are little boys and no need to “blame the parents”. I was one of those parents to three boys and I am sure I dropped the ball at times! It is a great community activity organized by the scouts and the Food Bank’s biggest drive!
I’m pretty annoyed by all the plastic bags (multiple, from neighbors’ houses) that ended up on my lawn. I know the intention is good; but picking up the mess left at my house was pretty annoying this year.
