Next week is the Kickoff Celebration for the Congenital Heart Walk Boston. The fundraiser supports the Adult Congenital Heart Association (ACHA) and The Children’s Heart Foundation (CHF).

Join us for a night of dinner, dancing and fun to raise money to fight congenital heart defects, the #1 birth defect. Affecting millions of children and adults across the country, we are bringing much-needed awareness and funding for research, advocacy and support for those affected.

Southborough’s Dolores Edgren is chairing the event. Edgren’s co-chair is her oldest daughter, native Kim Edgren, who also co-owns Southborough’s Wee Care for Little People with her.

The mother-daughter duo have deep ties to the fundraiser. More than six years ago, Kim volunteered to to Chair the first Boston walk. She wanted do her part to help millions of others like herself.

On this year’s fundraising site, Dolores explains their involvement in the cause and the Saturday, April 1st Kickoff:

It’s that time of the year again when the “Mommy” in me steps up to the plate to do everything possible for her child and the many more children that are born each year with congenital heart disease. As many of you know my daughter and co-owner of Wee Care Kim was born with life threatening heart defects. After surviving 5 open heart surgeries and many other setbacks Kim is doing very well today. We are very grateful for the wonderful care that Kim received under the care of the late Dr. Alexander Nadas and many, many other Drs. and nurses at Boston Children’s Hospital. Kim is still followed today by Dr. Michael Landzberg from the Boston Adult Congenital Heart program at BCH.

This Little Girl with CHD has grown up to be not only a loving daughter, sister, partner and mother but also my business partner carrying out our passion at Wee Care for little people. Never in my wildest dreams would I have ever thought this would have been possible when she was born.

Kim feels so blessed knowing that all her good fortune was possible because of the dedication of so many doctors, researchers, nurses and her good fortune of having the best medical facilities in the world available to her. Kim gives back by chairing the Congenital Heart Walk- Boston for the 6th year, going to advocacy day in Washington DC plus being an ambassador the Adult Congenital Heart Association.

Here at Wee Care we have had, in addition to Kim, three teacher and several students with this #1 birth defect. As a matter of fact we have an infant that was supposed to join us this month but has postponed their start date because their baby girl was born with a heart defect. We wish her well.

For the third year I am chairing the Kick-Off Celebration dinner dance and fund-raising auction for the Congenital Heart Walk-Boston to support the life saving mission of The Children’s Heart Foundation and the Adult Congenital Heart Association. I would love if you would consider joining Team Wee Care for a fun night at the Kick-Off Celebration or consider making a donation to support the Congenital Heart Walk-Boston.
