Heritage Chorale will return to Southborough next week for its Fall Concert. The approx 100 person chorus will sing Folk Songs, Carols, and Lullabyes at St. Mark’s School on Sunday, November 19th.
The website pitches the Fall Concert as A Celebration of Love:
Charming melodies, witty poetry, humorous or poignant story-lines make folksongs and lullabies everlasting gems.
The group will perform:
- Gustav Holst (1874-1934): Six Choral Folksongs
- Cecilia McDowall (b. 1951): A Fancy of Folksongs
- Conrad Susa (1935-2013): Carols and Lullabies
Tickets for the show are available for a $5 discount if purchased online far enough in advance. (There’s a choice of PayPal by November 14th or Brown Paper Bag Tickets by November 16th. Each has a small handling fee that it’s too late to avoid.) Tickets will also be available at the door.

Gustav Holst’s Six Choral Folksongs presents a wide range of character and emotion — from hauntingly poignant (“I Love My Love”) to robust (“Swansea Town”).
Contemporary British composer Cecilia McDowall introduces listeners to love and courtship, flavored with both swagger and lyricism. Arranged for chorus and harp accompaniment, A Fancy of Folksongs invites us to joyfully celebrate youthful love.
Christmas carols, with their singable, memorable melodies and narrative texts, are much like folksongs. American composer Conrad Susa’s Carols and Lullabies is a collection of Spanish, Puerto Rican, Mexican, and Catalonian carols, all popular in the American Southwest. His delicate scoring of the accompaniment calls for harp, guitar, and marimba, to create a magical texture over which the carol melodies sparkle and dance.
