Local yoga instructor Annie Sobel has been coming to the Southborough Senior Center every Thursday for a while now to lead a small group of participants in an after-work yoga session. The Algonquin basketball program will offer a skills camp at the high school over February vacation for boys and girls in grades 5 through 8. The camp will be run by varsity head coaches Brian Doherty and Ron Jones with help from the varsity boys and girls players. The Southborough Open Land Foundation, along with Eastern Mountain Sports, is sponsoring a snowshoe clinic at the Beals Preserve in Southborough on Saturday, January 26 from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm. The winter months can be a challenge for families with young children, what with all the stuck-inside-stir-craziness. The Southborough Recreation Department hopes to help. Starting next week, they open their upstairs space at the old South Union School twice a week to little ones who need a place to play. Mother Nature has not cooperated enough to get the community skating rink at Woodward up and running, but there will still be opportunities to skate over the Christmas break as the rink at St. Mark’s opens to the public. Santa Claus will make his usual flashy arrival in Southborough on Saturday, December 9, when he lands via helicopter on St. Mark’s field (weather permitting). From there he’ll head over to the Community House to hear the wish lists of all the good little boys and girls. The Jolly One arrives at noon, and will be at the Community House until 3:00 pm. Kids need to shop for the holidays too, and each year Southborough Boy Scouts offer them a safe and fun environment to do just that. The annual Troop 92 Kids Shop will be held this year on Saturday, December 1, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm at Woodward School (28 Cordaville Road).
