A couple hundred runners and walkers pounded the pavement in Southborough on Sunday to help raise more than $8K for victims of the Boston Marathon bombings. The 5K race, which started and ended at Trottier Middle School, was organized by Southborough-owned FitStudio 28, with help from the Southborough Recreation Department and other local businesses. On an unseasonably cool day under bright blue sky, a crowd of Southborough residents turned out to honor the town’s veterans and remember those lost in battle. The annual Memorial Day parade passed through downtown and then wound its way to each of the town’s cemeteries and war memorials. The Easter Bunny arrived in Southborough a day early on Saturday, and scattered the lawn at the Community House with treasure-filled eggs. The Algonquin boys basketball team lost a tough one to Wachusett last weekend. In a battle of two undefeated teams, Algonquin fell by a score of 58-49. Algonquin’s school colors are maroon and gold, but this weekend they sprinkled in some green. The Algonquin boys basketball team paid homage to Eric Green at their game this weekend by donning green shoelaces, marking the one-year anniversary the Trottier 7th-grader’s sudden passing.
