In my backyard: Bambi times two
Look who decided to pay me a visit the other day: Does it get much cuter than that? And they came almost right up to the house. Mama kept a close watch from the edge of the woods. Well, hello gorgeous! Deer sightings are relatively rare around my house, which I find surprising given that Read the full article → from In my backyard: Bambi times two
The fungus among us
I’ve already admitted to having a lack of flowers in my yard, but what I have no shortage of this year is fungi. And, really, who doesn’t love a nice fungus? I’ve got little ones: And creamy toadstool-shaped ones: And scaly ones: And my personal favorite from earlier this spring. The picture doesn’t do it Read the full article → from The fungus among us
What’s blooming in your yard?
My yard is in desperate need of some summertime flowers. All we have to speak of are a bunch of tiger lilies planted by the previous owner. And lovely though they may be, they’re not nearly enough. What’s more American than taking in a polo match on the Fourth of July? Well, I can think of a few things, but with team USA trouncing Hungary by a score of 12 to 6 on Saturday at the Newport International Polo Series, there was a bit of patriotism in the air. Games take place Read the full article → from Further afield: Polo in Portsmouth
Swan on the Wachusett Aqueduct
I captured these pictures earlier in the month on the section of the aqueduct between Parkerville and Deerfoot Roads. For a time there were two swans swimming there each morning, then just the one, and now I don’t see either when I go by. Anyone caught a glimpse of them elsewhere in town? The sounds of spring
The happy screams of children playing outside. The soft buzz of drowsy insects. The gentle rustle of new leaves. The incessant clunk, clunk, clunk of a robin throwing itself against my window. As I sit here typing, a robin is engaged in mortal combat with his reflection in my picture window. He attacks the window Read the full article → from The sounds of spring
