Postseason update: Boys and girls lacrosse both headed to the state finals; baseball semifinals postponed

It will be an Algonquin double-header in the lacrosse state finals later this week. Both the boys and girls lacrosse teams won their semifinal matches in East Longmeadow yesterday, setting up back-to-back championship games on Friday. The Algonquin baseball team, on the other hand, will have to wait a few more days to find out if their Cinderella season will continue after their semifinal match against Westfield was postponed due to rain. Algonquin captures four championship titles this weekend (with PHOTOS)

What a weekend for Algonquin. On Saturday the boys lacrosse and girls lacrosse teams won their respective district titles in back-to-back matches at Foley Stadium. The same day the Algonquin girls rugby team captured the Massachusetts Youth Rugby Organization State Championship title. Then on Sunday, the underdog Algonquin baseball team staged a huge upset over top-ranked St. John’s to win the Central Division 1 title. Algonquin boys lacrosse, girls lacrosse, and girls rugby all win championship titles on Saturday

Yesterday was a big day in Algonquin sports. Both the boys and girls lacrosse teams won their respective Central Division championship games. The boys beat Grafton by a score of 11-9 and the girls triumphed over Westborough by a score of 7-5. Both teams will move on to the state tournament with semifinal games on Tuesday.
