Algonquin teams have been enjoying success in the Central Division 1 playoffs this week. The boys lacrosse, girls lacrosse, and baseball teams are all still in the running for division titles. The boys lacrosse team will play in the division finals on Saturday, while the girls lacrosse and baseball teams compete in their respective semifinals tonight. Postseason update: Algonquin boys lacrosse, baseball advance; girls tennis out
It was a nail-biter for the Algonquin boys lacrosse team last night at Foley Stadium, but the T-Hawks pulled out a 7-6 win against St. John’s in the Central Division 2 semifinals. Sophomore Mike Wood scored the final two goals, including the game-winner which came with just 3:54 left to play. Postseason update: Girls lacrosse advances to the semifinals; rain delays other games
After more than a week of idle time thanks to a first-round bye and some uncooperative weather, the Algonquin girls lacrosse team finally got in their Central Mass Division 1 quarterfinal game yesterday afternoon. Turns out the week off and the rain falling at game time did nothing to dampen the team’s spirit as they rolled past Bromfield by a score of 19-5. Heavy rain postponed the scheduled girls lacrosse quarterfinal match on Saturday – if the weather cooperates they’ll get the game in later today – as the boys lacrosse, baseball, and girls tennis teams all advanced to the next round. For the girls softball and boys tennis teams it was the end of the road.
