Last month, the Southborough School Committee submitted an Article for the Warrant for the Special Town Meeting in October. It requests borrowing over $4MM to replace Neary School’s roof.

Last night, the Southborough Select Board unanimously voted against requesting an extension on the state grant for the Neary Building Project.
That kills any remaining hope that project supporters had for building a new 4-grade school at Neary to open for the school year 2028-2029. Tomorrow night, the Select Board will vote on whether to request an extension for getting voters’ approval to fund the Neary School Building project. The last time the question came up, the board was split. But the majority had been in favor of keeping the option alive, while the Town continues to explore how to handle school building issues. U.S. News & World Report recently issued the 2025 rankings for best public high schools. Algonquin Regional had its best year yet, shooting up to #14 for the state. And a neighbor that has previously topped rankings took a little tumble.
