On this Tuesday’s Select Board agenda, the board will discuss a request from MassDEP (Dept of Environmental Protection) for “additional sampling/risk assessment for Parkerville Road landfill”.
The letter was in response to above standard results for some hazardous contaminants in samples from the groundwater testing wells.
While the Town’s contractor continued to reassure that he wasn’t concerned about an impact to Neary School (which is downhill from the landfill), he did plan to follow up on potential risk for residents with nearby drinking water wells. In December, the Regional and Southborough School Committees voted to adopt the school calendar for 2026-27. The majority of members voted to schedule Professional Development Days on three religious holidays.
The Northborough School Committee failed to adopt a calendar due to a split tie vote among the four attending members. The Committee was scheduled to vote again at their January meeting. According to the Community Advocate, that effort was put on hold after the district received complaints from the Algonquin Regional Teachers Association.
I’m sharing information from the CA’s story, with a detailed look back at the discussion and votes in November. Read the full article → from Next year’s school calendar still uncertain (Updated)
