Last summer area police chiefs — including Southborough Chief Jane Moran — banded together to protest a proposal to close Westborough District Court. The state ultimately decided not to close the court, but recently announced a plan to move all jury trials to Worcester. It’s a move police officials say will cost their departments time and money.

“I think our overtime expenses for (jury trials) will more than triple,” she said, estimating the department usually spends between $1,600 and $1,800 a year.
Moran said the chiefs whose towns use Westborough District Court – Westborough, Northborough, Southborough, Shrewsbury and Grafton – are unhappy with the decision. They plan on sending a letter to the state voicing their opposition, she said.
