Given past comments, I know that some of you have strong opinions on what the town needs in a police chief. Now is your opportunity to officially weigh in.
The Police Chief Search Committe asked me to share a survey: Who Should Be Our Next Police Chief?
Don’t let the title fool you. You won’t be voting between candidates. But you will be informing the people who make that decision.
The survey should help the committee and selectmen understand what the community wants from a new chief. The questions posed are:
- What qualities should we be looking for in a new Police Chief?
- What role should the new Chief of Police play in the community?
- What can the new Police Chief do to make the Police Department more effective and responsive to the needs of our community?
There is also an area for comments and suggestions.
Surveys will be collected by recruitment consultant BadgeQuest. (Please do not return to town hall or police department.)
Submission deadline is December 2, 2013. You can email badgequest@comcast.net or mail to BadgeQuest, 45 Sullivan Road, West Yarmouth, MA 02673

in my view the new police chief should be slected from within present department.
Knowledge of the town its people and personel of the of the department is most important.
In past years the fire department has promoted from within with much success.
