Why flags are still at half staff: June 30, 2015 (and could be for a while)

Flags in Southborough and across the state should now be flying at half staff in honor of Massachusetts State Senator Thomas P. Kennedy, Second Plymouth and Bristol district, of Brockton, MA who died on June 28, 2015.

You can read more about the Senator and his passing here.

The order from the Governor’s office to lower the flag as of sunrise yesterday, overlapped a previously issued order to lower it at that time in honor of PFC Peter J. Handibode.

The new order has flags lowered until the date of the Senator’s interment. That looks like it could be a while.

According to the Senator’s funeral home, a funeral mass will take place on July 7th, but:

Interment will take place in St. Francis Cemetery, Maitland, Hants County, Nova Scotia at a later date.

The last time the Governor’s office gave an order to keep a flag lowered until interment (in honor of Senator Brook), towns who followed the order had flags down for more than two months.
